{"id":243,"date":"2011-05-27T23:53:17","date_gmt":"2011-05-28T06:53:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/betherebedtimestories.wordpress.com\/?p=243"},"modified":"2011-05-27T23:53:17","modified_gmt":"2011-05-28T06:53:17","slug":"banana-splits-and-books","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/read.betherebedtimestories.com\/?p=243","title":{"rendered":"Banana Splits and Books"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-294\" title=\"banana split2\" src=\"https:\/\/betherebedtimestories.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/05\/banana-split29.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"254\" height=\"198\" \/>Ice cream, check.<\/p>\n<p>Sprinkles, check.<\/p>\n<p>Bananas, check.<\/p>\n<p>Candy toppings, check.<\/p>\n<p>Today is the last day of school for my girls so we are \u2028celebrating! \u00a0I borrowed this idea from my mom.\u00a0 Growing up, the last day of \u2028school for my siblings and I included the same celebration. \u00a0Last-day-of-school \u2028build your own sundaes! \u00a0Friends and neighbors invited too! \u00a0This was one of those \u2028isolated events in my memory as a child being a very special time. \u00a0We all have \u2028them. \u00a0They are snapshots of singular experiences when we were young that stay \u2028with us through all of our years. \u00a0Often these memories are only activated when \u2028we go through a similar experience with our own children.<\/p>\n<p>Books in the home provide other powerful images that come to \u2028my mind. \u00a0I discovered soon after having kids and reading to them that some \u2028books unleashed very familiar, yet distant memories. Some books I remember\u2028 well, others I didn\u2019t even recall until I opened a book up and the images and\u2028 language all came back. \u00a0Some of them are oldies but goodies like <em>Where the Wild Things Are<\/em> by Maurice\u2028 Sendak and some are unknown gems such as <em>Clyde of Afric<\/em>a by Michael Mason.<\/p>\n<p>These are experiences that had an imprint on us. \u00a0As parents \u2028we all have the opportunity to create these imprints on our own children and\u2028 that is a very cool thing to have. \u00a0What imprints do you have from YOUR \u2028childhood and which ones do you want to create for your own children?<\/p>\n<p>Having received and sent countless <em>Be There Bedtime\u2028Stories<\/em>, my children will have memories of reading experiences that I never had. \u00a0\u2028I wonder which ones they have tucked away in the recesses of their minds that\u2028 will come back to visit them again someday&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ice cream, check.
