After a year of taking classes<br \/>\nfull-time, I am back to work this year as a reading specialist. I have gotten<br \/>\nto know many different suburban school demographics this past year due to<br \/>\nworking with other teachers in my classes and then, more recently, going<br \/>\nthrough many interviews in a variety of districts. The one thing that stands<br \/>\nout is the fact that they all have an English Language Learner population. That<br \/>\npopulation comes from a variety of different places all around the world.<br \/>\nCurrently, I am working with a variety of middle school students, some of which<br \/>\nare here from Thailand, Burma and Brazil. They are so bright and I can\u2019t help<br \/>\nbut be amazed at their tenacity in being put in a culture where they did not<br \/>\nspeak the language and now they do it so well. I also can\u2019t help but be envious<br \/>\nthat they speak two different languages.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.betherebedtimestories.com\/book.aspx?bookID=58\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-594 alignleft\" title=\"Un_Lobo_Aulla\" src=\"https:\/\/betherebedtimestories.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/09\/un_lobo_aulla1.jpg?w=214\" alt=\"\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/read.betherebedtimestories.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/un_lobo_aulla1.jpg 250w, https:\/\/read.betherebedtimestories.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/un_lobo_aulla1-214x300.jpg 214w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 214px) 100vw, 214px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The other trend I have seen is schools offering dual-language<br \/>\nprogram to their students. Most in my area are dual-language Spanish programs,\u00a0but there are also a couple districts I know if that also offer dual-language\u00a0Japanese. While these offerings are not the norm, I think more and more people\u00a0are realizing the value in allowing their child to participate in a program\u00a0that will give them command of two languages. I also think it is very cool that\u00a0Be There Bedtime stories offers some of their selections in Spanish such as <em>En Las Aguas Articas<\/em> and <em>Un Lobo Aulla <\/em>just to name a couple. \u00a0My daughter, who is in a second grade dual-language classroom\u00a0herself, read a Be There Bedtime Story in Spanish just the other day\u00a0to her Aunt who lives in San Francisco, but grew up in Peru.
